Jordan's e-commerce market quietly doubled between 2022 and 2026. The infrastructure — CliQ, JoMoPay, Aramex's domestic network, faster customs clearance — finally caught up with consumer demand. If you are launching a store in Jordan in 2026, here is the playbook I give every founder who asks.
1. Legal & tax setup
- Register a sole proprietorship or LLC through the Ministry of Industry & Trade. An LLC (Sharikat Mahdoodat al-Mas'uliyya) is the standard for any store you plan to scale.
- Get a National Number and register for General Sales Tax (GST) at 16% if you'll exceed the JOD 30,000 annual threshold (most stores will within year one).
- Income Schedule. Talk to a Jordanian accountant before launch. Properly categorizing imported inventory at customs alone can save 5–10% on landed cost.
2. Payments — the modern Jordan stack
- CliQ. Now the dominant peer-to-peer + merchant rail. Integrate it directly via your bank's merchant API, or via aggregators like MadfooatCom.
- JoMoPay. The Central Bank's switch — the backbone behind CliQ and many wallet flows.
- Visa / Mastercard. Use a Jordanian PSP — HyperPay, MEPS, Network International (Jordan), MadfooatCom, or PayTabs. Settlement to JOD bank accounts, MCC routing handled, 3DS2 by default.
- Wallets. Zain Cash, Orange Money, Dinarak — useful for the unbanked segment, especially for COD reduction.
- BNPL. Tabby and Tamara are now live in Jordan and convert well above JOD 50 AOV.
- Cash on delivery. Still ~40% of orders in many categories. Build refund/return economics around a 15–25% COD failure rate.
3. Shipping & fulfillment
| Carrier | Sweet spot | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Aramex | Nationwide + GCC + global | Highest reliability, mid pricing, strong API |
| DHL / FedEx | Cross-border express | For international orders only |
| NaqelPlus, Tanmiyat, J&T | Amman + Zarqa + Irbid | Cheaper, faster on city-to-city |
| In-house riders | Same-day Amman | Worth it once you exceed ~60 orders/day in one city |
4. The platform decision
- Shopify. The default for 90% of Jordan-based brands launching in 2026. Strong PSP coverage, clean Arabic theme support, low maintenance.
- WooCommerce. Still solid if you already host a WordPress site and want minimum platform cost. You will own all hosting and maintenance.
- Salla / Zid. Worth considering only if you sell mostly into KSA — both are KSA-first. For Jordan-only, Shopify beats them on flexibility.
- Adobe Commerce. Only if you have a real B2B catalog or 50k+ SKUs.
5. The 30-day launch sequence
- Week 1. Legal registration, GST, bank account, PSP application.
- Week 2. Brand basics, product photography, Shopify store on a clean Arabic/English theme.
- Week 3. Payment gateway integration, Aramex/J&T API, return policy, terms, privacy.
- Week 4. Soft launch to a friends-and-family list, fix the top 10 friction points, then turn on paid acquisition.
6. The first 90 days of growth
The brands that work in Jordan share three habits:
- They run Meta and Google Search together from day one — not one then the other.
- They invest in Arabic-first creative, not translated English copy.
- They obsess over the COD return rate; cutting it by 10 points is often a larger profit lever than a 20% lift in conversion.
Jordan rewards operational discipline more than it rewards flashy launches. Build a quiet, reliable, fast store — and Amman, Irbid, and Zarqa will reward you.
